My Boyfriend is jealous, Is this right what i did?

Well my boyfriend is a senior and he had a ex girlfriend and he kept telling me that he would always get jealous when they were dating and he said to me that if he does that mean that he is very sorry. So He is in the marching band for his school and his school had to go play for a soccer game and i went and there i met a guy and he was nice so we talked and then for some reason he brings up this girl i real dislike and she doesnt like me either so then that guy told me dont even worry about her she has an attitude problem. so then when the event was over i told him that he was a good friend n he told me yea your cool too and i knew i wasnt gunna ever see him again cuz my boyfriends a senior im a junior n we both go to different schools my bf goes to San Pedro n i go to Narbonne. so i knew i wouldnt see him n im a very social erfly so i wanted to keep in touch so i gave him my number n we dont even talk n my boyfriend got mad. And honestly he got mad cuz he didnt want me talking to him n he got jealous! idk y! so basically i want to know who is right? was it ok for me to give him my number?
