Is homecourt advantage a good enough reason for home teams to win in the NBA? Do refs give more calls?
the reason it's called home court advantage, is because the home team has the luxury of feeling relaxed and familiar with a gym that they are used to playing in. in my years of playing ball, i could get down no matter where i was. however, there was never anything better than playing on the neighborhood courts. for some reason i just felt more at ease. in the NBA, to have that advantage is more mental than anything. just the phrase "home court advantage" can be a confidence boost to many teams. we all know that the refs make calls that are phantom-like sometimes. they favor the stars sometimes too. but mostly, i think the refs tend to reward the more aggressive team, when it comes to the way calls go. i will not say they have a charge to keep the home team ahead on calls. the home team, feeling more confident, usually comes out more aggressive, as they're being cheered on by fans. this is what leads the refs to reward them with more calls.
