Are Mac hardware components better quality than PC?

The Mac VS PC debate will likely go on forever. My question is this: When buying a Macintosh Computer (laptop or desktop) there is an obvious price premium. What does Mac claim that you are getting in terms of value for that price premium? It seems as that Mac is using almost identical components to some Dell systems. Could it be possible that the price premium for an apple machine is simply for the OSX operating system and the more stylish design of the computer itself?
